Trigger Point Injections (TPI)

Trigger point injections

One of the most common pain syndromes that we see at Remedy Pain Solutions is myofascial pain, characterized by “trigger points.” A trigger point is a knotted or tight location within a muscle which produces pain focally and in a referred pattern when palpated. These “knots” form when your muscle cannot relax, and are often noticed by patients as they try to rub a painful muscle at home. While trigger points can occur without underlying disease, many patients who experience trigger points also have chronic musculoskeletal pain disorders.

Although muscular pain can be a great nuisance to patients of all ages, many are unaware that there is a very quick and effective treatment for this type of pain. Trigger point injections only take several minutes to complete, and can be performed during an office visit at our Marina Del Rey clinic. Trigger point injections are intended to reduce inflammation and muscle tightness that affect surrounding nerves. This is accomplished using a very small needle containing anesthetic with or without a steroid, aimed at breaking the pain cycle and allowing the muscle to relax. Muscle relaxation improves the blood flow to the area and promotes healing. Trigger point injections may be indicated if a patient continues to have muscle pain not relieved by oral pain medications or physical therapy. Initially the injections may be performed every one to two weeks apart, but tend to be limited to one month intervals if used as a maintenance therapy. For even longer lasting benefits, regenerative procedures such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) may be recommended to promote healing and increase the likelihood of permanent improvement.

At Remedy Pain Solutions we are proud to offer trigger point injections to our patients, providing a safe and effective solution to myofascial pain. If you are living near Marina Del Rey, California and are suffering with chronic muscular pain caused by trigger points, come in to Remedy Pain Solutions where we’ll be happy to discuss whether trigger point injections are the right choice for you.
