Symptoms of Elbow Pain

  • Internal or external elbow pain
  • Warmth in the elbow
  • Swelling in the elbow
  • Tenderness in the elbow
  • Limited range of motion
  • Discomfort that worsens through the day

Causes of Elbow Pain

Bursitis

Bursas are fluid-filled sacs that cushion the elbow joints, allowing them to move effectively without friction. When the bursas are inflamed or worn down due to injuries or age-related wear-and-tear, they stop absorbing the shock from joint movements, leading to elbow joint irritation and inflammation. This is bursitis.

Tennis Elbow

A tennis elbow occurs due to the overuse of the elbows in a repeated motion. It’s called a “tennis elbow” because it’s incredibly common amongst tennis players, but it can also affect other athletes. The pain from a tennis elbow usually worsens when you squeeze certain objects.

Strains and Sprains

Injuries, physical trauma, and age-related wear and tear can lead to ligament strains and sprains, i.e., the elbow ligaments can get stretched or torn. This leads to joint instability, limited range of motion, swelling, and severe pain. Elbow strains usually affect the muscles, and sprains affect the ligaments.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is an age-related condition wherein the cartilage found between the elbow joints gets worn down. These cartilages usually cushion the elbows to minimize friction. When they’re damaged or worn down, you experience severe difficulty with elbow movements, locking sensations in the elbow, and pain.

Golfer's Elbow

Golfer’s elbow, also known as medial epicondylitis, is a condition that causes pain on the inner parts of the elbow, on the region wherein the tendons of the forearm muscles connect to the inside of the elbow. The pain often spreads to the wrists. This is an overuse injury common amongst golfers, but it can affect anyone.

Diagnosing Elbow Pain

Remedy Pain Solutions believes in addressing the root cause of elbow pain to provide lasting relief rather than simply masking the symptoms temporarily. Our interventional pain specialists use the latest diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root cause of your problems. We start by discussing your symptoms, following which we physically examine your elbows and joints. Finally, we also run a series of imaging tests, such as x-rays, MRIs, and diagnostic ultrasounds, to identify the locus of your elbow pain, i.e., the affected joints and cartilages.

Interventional Elbow Pain Treatments

Remedy Pain Solutions only provides interventional and regenerative elbow pain treatments, such as epidural injections, PRP therapy, and joint pain treatments. We avoid narcotics and surgeries because the former can cause addictions, and the latter is needlessly complicated. Our minimally invasive procedures usually conclude within a single in-office and outpatient treatment, followed by minimal downtime and recovery. Our interventional pain specialists will recommend the treatments based on your specific goals and needs.
