As traffic continues to worsen across Los Angeles, the risk of automobile-related injury continues to rise as well. While no two car accidents are the same, the most common complaint that we at Remedy Pain Solutions hear from patients who were recently in an accident is that they have neck pain due to whiplash. “Whiplash” is a term describing a neck injury sustained during a rapid, back-and-forth movement of the head, mimicking the movement of the end of a whip when cracked. While these types of injuries are most often the result of an automobile accident, they can also occur during a sports accident, physical abuse or other trauma. Typical symptoms associated with whiplash include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, tenderness of the shoulders and upper back, fatigue, dizziness, or tingling in the arms. While most symptoms of whiplash should resolve within a few weeks, it is recommended that you see your doctor for a thorough evaluation after an accident, especially if the symptoms persist or worsen over time. Your doctor may consider ordering X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs, as high-level impacts can injure the vertebral bones of the spine, the discs between the bones, the surrounding muscles and ligaments, or even the nerves in the neck.
At Remedy Pain Solutions, our goal for whiplash treatment is to control pain, restore the normal range of motion of the neck, and get patients back to their normal daily activity levels. To accomplish this, our providers can provide trigger point injections into the muscles, facet joint injections into the joints of the spine, or epidural steroid injections to reduce nerve irritation and inflammation. A physical therapy regimen may also be a recommended component to some treatment regimens. If you or somebody you know is suffering with neck pain and believe you have whiplash, contact Remedy Pain Solutions to schedule a consultation to determine what treatment options may be best to get you back to pain-free living.
